1963 Type 21F Firetruck

flash_type21

The truck was built in Sept 1963, after the summer break, and so has the wide tailgate and flat front turn blinkers characteristic of 1964 and
later buses.

It was owned by a factory fire brigade in Mannheim Germany and used until it was put out to pasture in 1990. After 27 years of service, it had less than 10,000 kms on it. Once a month round the factory on inspection, I suppose, were all the miles it had ever done. It had slept in the heated fire engine bay every night, so the condition of the metal was pristine. The rubber seals were getting porous, so they had to be replaced.

It is rated for one ton and has re-inforced brakes. All the dents are on the inside (typical for ex-fire trucks). I converted to 12v, added an oil cooler, but otherwise left it stock.

The car is now resident in Switzerland, hence the number plates: GR stands for Graubuenden (deep in the Alps). flash@flashq.de
